Online Course: Minnesota Ethical and Legal Considerations of Play Therapy

Course Description
This course will aim to touch on the many ethical and legal issues faced by play therapists in the state of Minnesota. There are many ethical guidelines that uniquely affect those that work with children, and this training will aim to clarify many of the gray areas that arise in this work by diving into the MN statutes to truly understand the laws that underlie the standards of practice in the work we do.

The specific legal statutes that underpin the most common standards of practice when working with children
The in’s and outs of protecting yourself and your clients when working with blended families, high conflict families, or court involved cases
Additional documentation needs when working with children
How to confidently require parents to follow these standards of practice without argument or pushback
How to protect your practice from the common liabilities of working with kiddos
How to manage the topic of confidentiality with children, including a discussion on how much to share with parents regarding their child’s play and how to structure these discussions
How to ethically manage requests for records in many forms including subpoenas and court orders
