Parent Coaching
Parent coaching is a supportive, solution-focused approach designed to help you feel more confident and empowered in your parenting.
What is parent coaching?
A parent coach works alongside you to develop practical strategies, tools, and insights that can make a real difference in your day-to-day parenting. Whether you’re facing specific challenges or simply want to strengthen your relationship with your child, the goal is to help you build a positive, nurturing environment that promotes healthy growth and development, laying the foundation to managing behaviors with confidence.
Parent coaching isn’t therapy—it’s a collaborative process where you’ll receive guidance, support, and encouragement to navigate the ups and downs of raising children at all stages of life. Together, we can work on areas like communication, discipline, emotional regulation, and family dynamics, helping you feel more capable and connected as a parent.

My Coaching Perspective
In all areas of life, I’ve found that making decisions and creating meaningful change is much easier when we understand the “why” behind it all. This is especially true in parenting. Fully understanding the factors that motivate and shape your child’s needs is essential to effectively engaging in new parenting strategies and creating lasting change within your family dynamic.
Whether I’m coaching, teaching, or supporting you individually as a parent my goal is to help you uncover the “why” behind the challenges you’re facing. I work to find answers to questions such as: Why do children struggle to express their needs? Why do parents fall into patterns of punishment or disengagement instead of practicing healthy discipline? Why is it so hard for me to stay calm when my child isn’t?
By uncovering the “why,” we can not only build empathy but also increase your confidence as you move forward on your parenting journey.
We do better when we can integrate the “whys” behind our actions and choices, as well as those of our children.
It’s my vision to help parents like you discover the “why” behind your parenting challenges, so you can make more informed, effective choices. Doing better means feeling more confident in your parenting, understanding the deeper motivations behind your children’s actions, and approaching situations purposefully rather than reactively. By being thoughtful about your goals and intentions, you can implement them more effectively.

Commonly Asked Questions
-
Parent coaching is different from therapy in the way it approaches your challenges. While therapy often focuses on exploring deeper emotional issues and working through past trauma, parent coaching is more about providing practical support and solutions for the here and now. A parent coach helps you develop effective strategies, improve your parenting skills, and navigate specific challenges, all while strengthening your relationship with your child. It’s a more forward-focused approach that empowers you to manage everyday parenting situations with confidence.
-
Each coaching session typically lasts about 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to dive into your concerns and work on strategies to make a positive impact.
-
The frequency of sessions depends on your goals and needs. Many parents start with weekly sessions to build momentum, then adjust to bi-weekly or monthly as they begin to implement strategies and see progress.
-
That’s completely okay! We’ll work together to identify the key areas that would be most helpful for you, whether it’s communication, discipline, emotional regulation, or building a stronger connection with your child.
-
Yes, coaching is available both in-person (if local) and virtually, depending on your preferences and schedule. You’ll receive the same level of support no matter the format. I will not be offering in person coaching until May 2025.
-
Parent coaching is typically not covered by insurance because it is not considered a therapeutic service. While therapy often involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, parent coaching focuses on providing practical guidance and strategies for everyday parenting challenges. It is designed to help you develop specific skills, improve relationships, and address family dynamics, but it does not involve clinical diagnosis or treatment.
Because insurance usually only covers services that address medical or psychological conditions, parent coaching falls outside of those parameters. However, this also means that you have more flexibility and control over your coaching experience, as you won’t be restricted by insurance plans or requirements.
-
Parent coaching may be covered by your Health Savings Account (HSA) if it is deemed eligible under the guidelines of your HSA provider. Generally, HSA funds can be used for services that are considered medically necessary or related to health and wellness, which may sometimes include coaching services if they are focused on addressing mental health, behavioral issues, or specific challenges that impact your well-being.
If your parent coaching sessions are related to managing a diagnosed condition, such as anxiety, depression, or a behavioral disorder, and your provider agrees that coaching is part of your treatment plan, there is a chance that it may be covered. It’s a good idea to check directly with your HSA provider to confirm if parent coaching is eligible under your plan and whether any specific documentation or requirements are needed to use your HSA funds.
