Introduction to Somatic Experiential Play Therapy

This course will give you a foundational introduction to the Somatic Experiential Play Therapy modality created by Melissa Wetterlund and Sara Werner.


Minnesota Ethical and Legal Considerations of Play Therapy

This course will aim to touch on the many ethical and legal issues faced by play therapists in the state of Minnesota. There are many ethical guidelines that uniquely affect those that work with children, and this training will aim to clarify many of the gray areas that arise in this work by diving into the MN statutes to truly understand the laws that underlie the standards of practice in the work we do.


The Power Of Metaphor- Interpretation and Support of Symbolic Play Themes

This course will dive into the most common play themes seen in the playroom with the goal of equipping you to better understand the meaning of play. We will discuss how to see, interpret and respond to metaphor in a way that invites the child deeper into the play in order to mobilize their story.


Parents and Play- Mastering How to Integrate Parents into the Play Therapy Process

One of the hardest parts of working with children is knowing how to integrate their parents into the therapeutic process. Research shows that it is essential to get parent buy in and support in order to create the change we know is possible for their children.

This course will label and address the most essential pieces for increasing parent buy in and involvement in the play therapy process.

Meet Your Instructor

Melissa Wetterlund, MA, LP, LMFT, RPR-S is the co-creator of the Somatic Experiential Play Therapy model, owner of Watershed Psychological Services, and adjunct faculty in numerous graduate counseling programs. 

Melissa has been providing trainings around the country and has a passion for helping develop enthusiastic, confident, and competent clinicians and supervisors who truly understand what motivates their behaviors and the behaviors of others.  Her greatest excitement is providing mental health professionals and agencies the full support they need to ensure clients have the best possible therapeutic experience in their journeys towards health.

In addition to training clinicians, Melissa offers consultation services to both agencies and individuals to help grow private practices and play therapy programs.
